About the Shack

The club has a shack in the Wisenbaker Engineering Building room 169, however no roof access has been established. We have a club Flex 6400 connected to a fan dipole on the Oceanography and Meteorology Building that covers 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10, and 6 meter bands.

We also operate portable at various locations across campus and the Brazos Valley. An ARRL grant funded a go-kit that lets us set up quickly for Field Day, public service events, and emergency-communications support.

Shack access isn't given out to members, however any member of leadership can open the shack for you while they're present. Ask in Discord or at a meeting to set up a time.

Remote HF Station

The fan dipole on the O&M building is an inverted-V, located with the club's repeaters on the 14th floor.

The Flex 6400 is reachable remotely over the campus network (ports 4993/TCP and 4994/UDP forwarded) using SmartSDR, with a custom Python script standing in for the radio's usual local-network discovery protocol.

As of April 2026, the club has an approved $800 budget for Flex 6400 upgrades: an internal antenna tuner, 75 feet of RG-8U coax, and sealing materials/a ferrite choke for the coax connections.

Recent Equipment Donation

In July 2026, Carol Eubanks donated a large collection of radio equipment to the club in memory of her late husband, Gregory Eubanks, W5GTX. Starting next semester, this equipment is available for any dues-paying member to borrow. Read more on our news page →
